A hard day. Something to focus my energy on. See it on the bottom right? Purple and rectangular, now covered in strange yellow petals and a mysterious flower. That is where the stop light began. Anxiety was loud that day, so I drew what I could see from the living room. Eventually the word ‘breathe’ appeared, and the drawing kept me still, present, and grounded. Beetles, butterflies, ants and moths, spiders and snails and slugs. You name it, we’ve got it! I hope you have a blast searching for all the hidden critters and plants in this playful and light-hearted design. One of my favourite parts of an evening walk is seeing the light on in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003esomeone’s\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e home and catching a glimpse of the life within. When I drew this piece, we lived in an apartment building where I could see into many, many homes from my little spot in our living room. I had just purchased watercolour masking fluid and my mind was exploding with ideas of how I could try it out. What is masking fluid? A glue-like fluid you paint onto your artwork to preserve the white underneath. You paint over it, and once dry you rub it off to reveal the white beneath. I used it to create the busy background of this piece. Once I began playing with the masking fluid the subject flowed into view too — SPOTS. My theme became spots. Painted with watercolour and gouache, I drew inspiration from nature’s flower petals, mushrooms’ white splotches, and octopus tentacle suckers. I took to my drawing pad with my coloured pencils and made several of my own glass orbs (no glass-blowing required), admiring the different ways the colour integrates with the glass and the way the shapes are disrupted as light moves through them.
