What inspired this piece? Cool winter evenings, and people watching through lit-up windows. One of my favourite parts of an evening walk is seeing the light on in someone’s home and catching a glimpse of the life within. When I drew this piece, we lived in an apartment building where I could see into many, many homes from my little spot in our living room. This ethereal illustration, drawn from pen and marker, features houses in white silhouette — the busy background of blues, greens, oranges and yellows, represents the rich, full lives inside all those homes.

Anxiety is a series that started as a way for me to disconnect from my anxiety and reconnect with my creativity. My inspiration for these pieces was always found nearby, more precisely from the comfort of ‘my spot on the couch’ — I started by drawing something within view and what followed was a surprise, even to me. Each piece is an act of letting go, letting my mind be free and seeing where my hand and my unconscious mind lead me. This print is from the Anxiety collection.
