Breathe

What inspired this piece? A stop light. A hard day. Something to focus my energy on. See it in the bottom right? Purple and rectangular, now covered in strange yellow petals and a mysterious flower. That is where the stop light began. Anxiety was loud that day, so I drew what I could see from the living room. Eventually the word ‘breathe’ appeared, and the drawing kept me still, present, and grounded. This chaotic illustration blends plants and rigid shapes over a bright orange, pink and yellow background in coloured pencil and pen.

Anxietea is a series that started as a way for me to disconnect from my anxiety and reconnect with my creativity. My inspiration for these pieces was always found nearby, more precisely from the comfort of ‘my spot on the couch’ — I started by drawing something within view and what followed was a surprise, even to me. Each piece is an act of letting go, letting my mind be free and seeing where my hand and my unconscious mind lead me. This print is from the Anxietea collection.
