Glass

What inspired this piece? A beautiful blown-glass orb hangs in our living room—something we affectionately call the witches ball, as it is quite mystical looking. I love the variety of colours carefully selected and blown into the glass. I took to my drawing pad with my coloured pencils and made several of my own glass orbs (no glass-blowing required), admiring the different ways the colour integrates with the glass and the way the shapes are disrupted as light moves through them. The background is also a nod to the splintering of light through glass and the strangely organic forms that blown glass develops.

Anxiety is a series that started as a way for me to disconnect from my anxiety and reconnect with my creativity. My inspiration for these pieces was always found nearby, more precisely from the comfort of ‘my spot on the couch’ — I started by drawing something within view and what followed was a surprise, even to me. Each piece is an act of letting go, letting my mind be free and seeing where my hand and my unconscious mind lead me. This print is from the Anxiety collection.
