Play

What inspired this piece? I let my little-kid-self come out to colour and explore my art materials here. To me, this is what it feels like to be a child. This was the first piece in the series—I was stuck in an art-making rut and simply needed to play. I wrote ‘Play’ and everything followed: the love of adventure and exploring, getting muddy and hurt and having fun, doing just for the sake of doing. Childhood felt like nature, adventure and imagination wrapped into one. Drawn with coloured pencil and pen, the busy blue background feels bright and happy, full of curiosity, fluttering with icons of discovery and words that capture being a child at play.

Anxiety is a series that started as a way for me to disconnect from my anxiety and reconnect with my creativity. My inspiration for these pieces was always found nearby, more precisely from the comfort of ‘my spot on the couch’ — I started by drawing something within view and what followed was a surprise, even to me. Each piece is an act of letting go, letting my mind be free and seeing where my hand and my unconscious mind lead me. This print is from the Anxiety collection.
